Industrial PC’s thermal design keeps cool in harsh environments
Portwell has launched the KUBE-5500 industrial PC, designed for applications that need a rugged system.
The KUBE-5500 is based on the Intel CoreTM i5 7442EQ processor, formerly codenamed Kaby Lake. Packaged in an IP30 housing, the PC uses a patented thermal design intended to keep the system working stably in extreme environments.
The design uses edge LED indicators and a removable service panel to support easy monitoring and maintenance. An LVDS connector on the back is included to support panel-PC integration, suiting the KUBE-5500 to computing and communication solutions in a variety of industrial applications.
Equipped with the nine-generation Intel HD630 graphics engine, the system provides a total of three graphic ports. They include two space-saving DisplayPort V1.4 connections and one LVDS interface.
The industrial PC can take up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM and includes support for M.2-format solid-state drives and Mini-PCIe mass-storage devices, which can be used for operating systems or data storage. An optional SATA III interface provides further expansion for mass storage.
For I/O, the KUBE-5500 includes two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports alongside three RS232 serial interfaces and one that can be configured to support RS232, RS422 or RS485. The serial ports allow easy connection to local data collection unit and sensors
The KUBE-5500 provides two Ethernet ports that support datarates from 10Mb/s to 1Gb/s. The Ethernet connectivity is handled by an Intel i210 to ensure industrial levels of reliability for communication. A Mini-PCIe plug-in card slot is also available for system expansion.
For use in demanding environments, the KUBE-5500 meets the heavy-industry requirements of EN61000-6-4 and EN61000-6-2 for electromagnetic compatibility, including the extended fast transient criteria.
