Infinera uses sled-based architecture in optical transport platform
Claimed to be amongst the industry’s lowest power consumption and highest density levels, the Groove (GX) series of open, compact and modular transport systems by Infinera is based on a flexible sled-based design. It offers optical performance up to 800G per wavelength and a disaggregated open line system, using a Groove chassis. It is suitable for metro, regional and long-haul connectivity applications.
The GX Series includes support for Infinera’s industry-leading sixth-generation Infinite Capacity Engine (ICE6) technology, carrier-grade features, high-density chassis and a variety of advanced sled capabilities. The GX Series enables network operators to leverage the open, efficient, and flexible aspects of compact modular solutions for a significantly broader set of network applications, enabling them to cost-effectively meet the insatiable bandwidth demands driven by 5G and cloud-based networking.
The expanded GX Series of compact modular solutions adds improved scalability and carrier-grade features to data centre-style networking approaches, says Infinera, with chassis options that streamline and accelerate large-scale deployments in a wide variety of data centre and traditional service provider networks. These features include NEBS Level 3 compliance, field-replaceable redundant controllers, both A/C and D/C power supplies, enhanced security, 300- and 600mm ETSI-compliant shelf variants and multi-chassis single-element configurations. Additionally, the expansion adds a variety of new sled-based options, including the ICE6-powered CHM6 sled, a two x800G transponder sled.
Flexible aggregation sleds are a suite of metro-optimised sleds for multi-service aggregation. Another feature is the advanced open line system sleds which include low- and high-degree reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexers (ROADMs) with colourless/directionless/contentionless add-drop architectures and low-cost fixed optical add-drop multiplexers (FOADMs), to support most networks
