Kontron announces single board computer with Intel Core Ultra processors

Kontron has announced their new 3.5”-SBC-PTL at CES in Las Vegas (January 6-9, 2026). The latest generation of its 3.5”-SBC product family is based on brand-new Intel Core Ultra processors (code name ‘Panther Lake’). The new Single Board Computer delivers a powerful, energy-efficient solution for demanding AI applications and addresses the specific requirements of the industrial edge, enabling direct processing of image data, generating insights, and making autonomous decisions without the need for cloud connectivity or associated latency.

The 3.5”-SBC-PTL leverages innovative computing architecture, based on Intel CoreTM Ultra processors (series 3) which support up to 16 cores, an integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for energy-efficient AI inference, and up to 12 Xe GPU cores for high-performance AI (up to 180 TOPS) and video analytics. This hybrid architecture provides the flexibility to run complex, parallel AI pipelines efficiently — all without the need for a separate GPU. As a result, AI workloads can be processed directly at the data source, significantly reducing latency and overcoming connectivity barriers.

With integrated Intel Xe Matrix Extensions (Intel XMX) and specific OpenVINO optimisations the 3.5”-SBC-PTL further boosts the performance of each compute engine. In addition, up to four concurrent 6K displays can be driven, enabling high-detail visual outputs.

The board incorporates two DDR5 SO-DIMM sockets (up to 7200 MHz) and 3x USB 3.2 Gen 2 (2x Type A, 1x Type C), 2x USB 2.0 (1x Type A). The 3.5”-SBC-PTL features 2.5 GbE with TSN and dTPM 2.0 support ensuring real-time, low-latency communication within and between systems, critical for real-time AI processing.

The 3.5”-SBC-PTL offers three M.2 slots for SSD, WLAN, Bluetooth, WWAN, and other expansions. Finally, the board supports a board-to-board connector and a board-to-wire connector, providing additional I/O ports and extra graphics / AI acceleration card(s) respectively without the restriction of small form factors.

Designed for harsh environments, the 3.5”-SBC-PTL supports a wide input voltage range (9V to 36V) and integrates a TPM 2.0 security chip for enhanced hardware-level security, protecting user data, network access, and ensuring operational integrity against cyber threats. Some variants are designed for continuous operation (24/7) under harsh operating conditions and on high system load.
Different versions are available for both industrial temperature ranges (-40 °C to 85 °C) and commercial temperature ranges (0 °C to 60 °C).

3.5”-SBC-PTL ensures an extended long-term availability of up to 10 years from the release date, due to embedded key components and is CE, FCC, ICES, UKCA & UR (UL Recognised) compliant.
