Low clamping TVS protects USB Type-C in laptops, smartphones

Specialist in power semiconductors and power ICs, Alpha and Omega Semiconductors, has developed the AOZ8621UNI, a series of transient voltage suppressor (TVS) for VBUS protection using the latest high-surge TVS platform.

The devices are particularly suitable for USB Type-C Power Delivery including, but not limited to, laptops and smartphones, advises Alpha and Omega.

The AOZ8621UNI series covers a reverse working voltage (VRWM) range from 5.0 to 22V, which meets the requirement of USB Power Delivery. VRWM can be selected according to the maximum operating voltage on the Type-C VBUS pin.

The AOZ8621UNI series is housed in a DFN 2×2 package, small in size to fit the small footprint requirement of Type-C application small electronic devices.

Alpha and Omega believes that the low breakdown voltage, low clamping voltage, and high-surge current will contribute to reducing the ESD and EOS failure rate in end products.

Seven products make up the series, with VRWM of 5.0 to 22V (maximum) and typical breakdown voltages of 7.0 to 25.5V, depending on the model.

The AOZ8621UNI is available now in production quantities with a lead time of 16 weeks.

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor is a designer, developer and global supplier of a broad range of power semiconductors, including a wide portfolio of power MOSFET, IGBT, IPM, TVS, HVIC, GaN/SiC, power IC and digital power products.
