Low noise image sensors enhance ON Semiconductor’s industrial range

Sensors in the XGS family from ON Semiconductor now include high performance, low noise image sensors which offer 12-bit image quality at a high frame rate. The XGS 45000, the XGS 30000 and the XGS 20000 provide detailed imaging with up to 45 Mpixels for resolution critical applications and up to 60 frames per second in 8K video mode. ON Semiconductor has also added the XGS 5000, designed with low power performance for compact 29 x 29mm2 cameras.

Low noise performance and high image quality are essential in challenging IoT applications such as machine vision and intelligent transportation systems (ITS). A global shutter ensures that moving objects can be captured without any motion artefacts. A common architecture across all XGS which allows one camera design to be developed with multiple resolutions.

There is also a range of development tools available from ON Semiconductor. A demo kit includes a hardware platform with DevSuite software. This allows full sensor evaluation with access to all register settings.

There is also the X-Celerator platform which includes public FPGA code and provides a direct interface to standard FPGA development environments including Xilinx and Altera.

The X-Cube platform is another offering. The 29 x 29mm2 reference design supports XGS devices up to 16 Mpixels and offers HiSPi-to-MIPI conversion via a Lattice FPGA as well as image capture, processing and analysis using the DevSuite software.

ON Semiconductor supplies semiconductor-based power management, analogue, sensors, logic, timing, connectivity, discrete, SoC and custom devices. The company’s products are used in automotive, communications, computing, consumer, industrial, medical, aerospace and defence applications.

ON Semiconductor operates a supply chain and quality program, a robust compliance and ethics program, and a network of manufacturing facilities, sales offices and design centres in key markets throughout North America, Europe and the Asia Pacific regions.
