Motherboard for AMD AM5 has dual PCI Express 5.0 slots

A motherboard for AMD’s AM5 platform has been announced by Republic of Gamers (ROG). The Crosshair X670E Extreme has PCIe 5.0 connectivity and DDR5 RAM.

Data rates are 50 per cent faster than DDR4 memory while PCIe 5.0 connectivity will give users access to the fastest next-gen SSDs and GPUs as they become available. The new PCIe standard delivers double the link speeds of PCIe 4.0 and provides users with the bandwidth to deck out the ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme with USB4 and USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports. There is also a front panel USB 3.2 Gen 2 2×2 connector with support for Quick Charge 4+. By pairing this motherboard with a case featuring a front-panel USB Type-C port, users can have access 60W charging, said ROG.

There are two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots onboard and three additional slots via the ROG PCIe 5.0 M.2 card and the ROG GEN-Z.2 card, for a total of five M.2 slots, four of which support PCIe 5.0 x4 mode. There are heatsinks for all the slots, including those on the add-in cards. There are multilayer graphics on the surface of the wide heatsink cover for the primary M.2 slot. There are also six SATA 6Gbit per second ports to let users establish a large storage array.

The ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme motherboard has vivid RGB LED accents and can be personalised using the board’s AniMe Matrix display, an array of LEDs that can show off custom retro-style animations. There are vibrant, under glow lighting streams from the right edge of the board, an Aura RGB header and two addressable Gen 2 headers which allow users to connect RGB LED strips and synchronise with compatible Aura Sync gear.

The integrated aluminium I/O cover assists in cooling VRM circuitry and simplifies the build process, added ROG.

ProCool II power connectors are supplied for power supply plugs and to improve heat dissipation. The board also uses MicroFine alloy chokes and premium 10K black metallic capacitors for smooth power delivery to the AMD Ryzen processor, even under the highest loads, said ROG.

The audio system comprises a SupremeFX 7.1 surround sound system with integrated amplifiers and op amps. The audio circuit design uses interference shielding and discrete traces for the left and right channels. Auto impedance detection lets users enjoy even high-impedance audiophile headphones and get crystal-clear, distortion-free output, said ROG. An ESS ES9218PQ Quad DAC delivers audio to the front panel output with 130dB signal to noise ratio.

Republic of Gamers (ROG) is an ASUS sub-brand dedicated gaming hardware and software. Formed in 2006, ROG supplies motherboards, graphics cards, laptops, desktops, monitors, audio equipment, routers and peripherals.
