NI enhances LabView to increase insights

User-focused features have been introduced to LabView, NI’s data acquisition, instrument control and automation design environment. The new features will make LabView more user-friendly, efficient and powerful to help test professionals and engineers focus on turning test performance into business performance, said NI.

Updates include zoom for block diagrams, a quick change for faster object creation, a double click function to create control or indicator from a wire, together with visual improvements to highlight execution and option for execution speeds. There is also faster re-building of applications and packed project libraries. These enhancements are in addition to the virtual environment support for Python and LabView users announced Q1 2023.

NI’s director of product management, Eric Reffett, said: “Additions like zoom and quick change are meaningful in a graphical development environment”.

The company also announced a long-term collaboration with JKI, the company which introduced VIPM VIs (virtual instruments) to be used for automation code written in LabView 2013 and above.  The two companies will collaborate to improve package-related workflows in LabView.  This includes expanding VI Package Manager (VIPM) features, making it more robust and versatile for developers, and adding Dragon. This initial release is focused on using projects and packages, and NI said that the relationship will continue to improve the way developers share and re-use code.

JKI’s CEO, Jim Kring, commented: “JKI first created VIPM to help LabView developers build and reuse LabView code libraries, and it has since helped developers for over a decade. This collaboration with NI expands both the functionality available to all LabView developers in VIPM, as well as the access developers have to resources available in VIPM.io, but this initiative is just the beginning.”

NI provides tailored, software-connected systems, from data and automation to research and validation.
