Omron launches PWM-controlled versions of three power relays
Pulse width modulation (PWM) controlled versions of three of Omron Electronic Components Europe’s most popular power relays have been launched. The G2RL, G5Q and G5NB relays offer coil power levels that are 75 to 90 per cent lower than comparable standard versions, says Omron.
The relays which support PWM of the coil holding current, reduce the duty cycle and the average current to decrease power consumption and therefore the heat developed in the relay. The result is to improve efficiency and reduce thermal load especially in applications where banks of relays are employed, says Omron.
The high capacity 16A G2RL-PW1 is a low profile power relay, with a height of 15.7mm. It has a coil power consumption of just 120mW, compared to 400mW for the standard version. The SPDT G5Q-PW is a miniature power relay with a 10A switching capacity and coil power consumption of just 36mW in PWM form, compared to 400mW for the standard version. Finally, the G5NB-PW is an efficient single pole, 3A / 5A relay with a 10kV impulse withstand voltage. It offers the lowest coil power consumption, just 32mW, compared to 200mW for the standard model. All three families are optionally available in IEC/EN 60335-1 conformant versions.
