Optical components line-up supports fibre network architectures

Telecomms companies and multiple systems operators (MSOs) can deploy new, fibre-deep network architectures such as Fiber-to-the-X (FTTX) using the latest line of SFP Gigabit passive optical network (GPON) transceivers and GPON splitters from Precision OT.

The transceivers and splitters  will support service providers as they continue working to deliver next generation access services to bandwidth-hungry subscribers, said Precision OT.

According to ResearchandMarkets, the global GPON market will reach a total value of $8.3 billion by 2025, up from $5.8 billion at the end of 2019. This growth is being driven largely by surging demand for high-speed, triple and quad-play broadband services, including fixed internet, mobile internet, telephony and television products. The move toward more comprehensive 5G rollouts is also a significant factor. Service providers are largely investing in new, fibre-deep network architectures for internet service and TV providers, as well as 5G operators wanting to connect many small cell base stations.

Chris Page, CTO of Precision OT, explained “GPON is a key stepping stone for MSOs to provide the high bandwidth, high performance services their subscribers are demanding. Going this route helps save both capex and opex by replacing legacy copper wires with more efficient fibre optic cables and eliminating the need for expensive network switches”.

Precision OT’s GPON optics are bi-directional, support transmission distances between 20km and 40km and are resilient for both commercial and industrial temperatures.

They are used to augment existing networks or for green field build outs, to help service providers integrate more fibre into the end deployment sectors.

Precision Optical Transceivers (OT) is a system engineering company focused on optical transceivers and related active/passive optical components. For over a decade, it has helped build networks around the world by providing custom-engineered optical solutions.
