OVMed image signal processor is for reusable and disposable endoscopes

Designed for reusable and disposable endoscopes connected to handheld tablet consoles or camera control units (CCUs), the OVMed OH0131 image signal processor (ISP) supports all Omnivison medical image sensors up to 2Mpixel resolution. This includes, noted the company, the popular OCHTA, OVM6946, OCHFA, OCHSA and OCH2B imagers.

The OH0131 supports Omnivision’s proprietary AntLinx CMOS chip-on-tip endoscopy imaging interface and MIPI. It serves as a kernel board to integrate with any MIPI-input post-processing board by an SoC, FPGA or x86 platform to build custom CCUs or handheld tablet consoles.

The kernel features image pre-processing algorithms supporting brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, hue, white balance and gamma adjustment with advanced noise reduction. Post processing performed by a third-party partner utilising an SoC or FPGA will target (but is not limited to) LED drivers, patient isolation, high dynamic range, image rotation, image mask/onscreen display, H.264 compression, high-definition multimedia interface and Wi-Fi output.

The off-the-shelf OVMed OH0131 streamlines engineering for medical OEMs, said Omnivision. The ability to purchase a medical-grade image sensor with wafer-level optics, cable and ISP from one vendor also simplifies the supply chain, said Richard Yang, senior staff marketing manager, Omnivision. “The OH0131 ISP is based on an ASIC SoC for the highest image quality, reliability and cost-effectiveness, and is compatible with all our medical imagers that are 2MPixel and lower in resolution,” he added.

It is available now and the company plans to put the ISP through IEC 60601 EMC and EMI pre-scan testing. The miniature board is available in a small form factor of 63 x 51mm.

Omnivision is a global fabless semiconductor company that develops advanced digital imaging, analogue and touch and display solutions for multiple applications and industries, including mobile phones, security and surveillance, automotive, computing, medical and emerging applications.
