PCIe nanoSSD is compact with enhanced performance for edge AI

The nanoSSD 4TE3 is Innodisk’s response to the increasing demands of edge AI miniature design and high computing performance. It is a PCIe 4.0 x4 BGA SSD which is compact and reliable with performance to unlock the potential for 5G, automotive and aerospace applications.

Edge AI devices often demand efficiency and substantial capacity within a minimal space and are positioned in rugged external environments. Typical examples are 5G base stations, aerospace and in-vehicle systems. All require a small size to save space in devices with large capacity to support AIoT applications. The nanoSSD PCIe 4TE3 is in M.2 type 1620 BGA form factor with a height of 1.65mm but with large capacity reaching up to 1Tbyte. It also offers a transmission speed of up to 3.6Gbyte per second and a bandwidth of up to 8Gbyte per second catering for high computing requirements.

Innodisk has used a 12nm controller and a 112-layer 3D TDC NAND flash for the nanoSSD PCIe 4TE3 which is optimised for efficiency, low power consumption and reduced heat energy. The iSLC technology is claimed to extend its lifespan by a factor of 33, making it suitable for embedded and most industrial applications.

Unlike conventional plugged-in SSDs, the nanoSSD is solder-down and integrated onto the device motherboard against instabilities in outdoor environments, such as shaking and vibrations, ensuring uninterrupted signal and operation.

Pre-sales service includes a design kit, accessible before integration. The nanoSSD series is designed in-house, which allows for customisation, including namespace and security features. Examples include namespaces to enhance storage allocation flexibility, and security features such as AES-256, TCG Opal, quick erase and write protection which can be added for mission critical applications.

Innodisk specialises in AIoT solutions and industrial-grade memory and storage. Headquartered in Taiwan, the company began in 2005 and has been ranked among the top 10 worldwide providers of industrial-grade memory modules.
