Power module manufacturer Leapers Semi, adopts pioneering Melexis Si-RC snubber
Melexis has announced that Leapers Semiconductor, a global manufacturer of advanced power semiconductor modules, is incorporating the Melexis MLX91299 silicon-based RC snubber into its next-generation modules. This implementation shows how close cooperation between module manufacturers and semiconductor specialists can translate innovation into tangible system-level benefits for automotive and energy management applications.
Leapers’ power modules are widely used in demanding environments such as electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, renewable energy systems, and industrial power conversion. To meet the market’s requirements for higher efficiency, power density, and reliability, these modules increasingly rely on silicon carbide (SiC) power devices operating at higher switching frequencies and voltages. However, fully realising the benefits of SiC requires careful management of voltage overshoot, ringing, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) at the module level – challenges that can limit performance if not addressed.
Leapers selected the Melexis MLX91299 silicon RC snubber to address these effects directly within the module. Unlike traditional discrete RC snubbers applied externally, the MLX91299 is an integrated silicon RC device, combining a resistor and capacitor on a single bare die. Placed close to the switching components, it suppresses voltage spikes and high-frequency oscillations, maintains efficient thermal paths, and supports high-temperature operation. This allows Leapers to fully leverage SiC performance and efficiency while keeping compact layouts and enhancing overall module robustness. The bare-die snubber is also fully compatible with Leapers’ existing assembly and testing processes, ensuring predictable performance and smooth production integration.
