Power switch simplifies power rail management in SSDs
A three-level configurable slew-rate controlled power switch, the AP22980, simplifies and enhances power rail management in solid state drives (SSDs), said Diodes.
The single-channel, high side power switch features three selectable slew rates. This allows wider capacitance loads to be handled while keeping inrush currents down for system stability. The power switch is intended for solid state data storage systems used in portable electronic equipment, computer hardware, and edge-based data centres.
The N-channel MOSFET, with a built-in charge pump inside the AP22980, has an low RDS(on) of 5.1 mOhm enabling loads up to 6.0A yet minimises voltage drops and power losses in high current loading applications, said Diodes. A separate VBIAS pin allows a lower minimum input voltage, for a wider input voltage range of 0.285 to 5.5V.
The typical quiescent supply current is 60 microA, which means the AP22980 is optimised for use where keeping standby power consumption down is a priority.
Operational temperature range is -40 to +105 degrees C. If the junction temperature exceeds 150 degrees C, an over-temperature protection mechanism is triggered.
The AP22980 is supplied in the compact W-QFN1520 package.
