Rotary encoder is almost wear-free, says EBE
For small spatial conditions and installation spaces, EBE sensors + motion has developed the robust ESC17 mini rotary encoder. The small and compact encoder is based on the Hall principle. If required, the rotary encoder can also be operated by an integrated pushbutton function. The magnetic detection of the rotary movement and button signals means the ESC17 mini is almost wear-free, said the company. The ball latch used with 16 locking positions provides haptic feedback. Depending on the latching force, a service life of several 100,000 revolutions can be realised for the ESC17 mini, said EBE sensor + motion. The protection from electrostatic discharge (ESD) when installed is realised by a massive pin to the grounding.
The encoder’s dimensions are 17 x 19mm with an installation height of 11mm below the front plate the rotary encoder, making it “significantly more compact” than comparable products on the market. The ESC17 mini is robust for use in compact, mobile devices such as defibrillators, tachymeters or theodolites, advise EBE. Due to a water- and dust-proof front plate, it is also suitable for use under extreme ambient conditions, e.g. in municipal vehicles, in forestry and agriculture, in construction machines or their handheld terminals.
EBE sensors + motion has a smart modular system offering adaptations for its rotary encoders. This allows for freedoms not available with standard products, and allows the encoders to cover applications for very special uses in a wide range of areas.
EBE Elektro-Bau-Elemente (EBE sensors + motion) is based in LeinfeldenEchterdingen near Stuttgart, Germany. It develops and manufactures sensor technology products, components for human machine interfaces (HMI) as well as actuator and mechatronics technology. The company focuses on capacitive and inductive sensors based on the technologies developed in-house together with mechatronic products for industry, appliances, medicine and mobility.
The company’s sensor portfolio also includes level sensors, pressure sensors, position sensors and capacitive touch sensors.
EBE develops and manufactures customer-specific solenoids and robust rotary switches, buttons and encoders and adapts them to the customer requirements. The company says it is a competence centre for the development and production of sensor systems and drive technology.
