Rutronik adds Infineon’s three-phase SOI-based gate driver
Designed for three-phase brushless DC (BLDC) motor drive applications, Infineon’s Motix 6ED2742S01Q 160V SoI-based gate driver is available from Rutronik.
It has a bootstrap voltage (VB node) of +160V and a floating channel specifically for bootstrap operation. It is supplied in a compact QFN32 lead package, measuring 5.0 x 5.0mm and offers high power density for applications up to 500W. The gate driver ensures significantly lower level shift losses at a switching frequency of up to 500kHz for BLDC inverter stages.
The analogue functionality and 100 per cent duty cycle operation makes it user friendly and robust for a range of uses, including robotics, drones, multicopters, low speed electric vehicles (LSEVs) and cordless power tools.
The Motix 6ED2742S01Q has a current sense amplifier (CSA) with a selectable gain installed between the VSS and COM. To enable a wide input VIN range, there is a power management unit with a linear pre-regulator and an integrated charge pump for a stable supply voltage.
The gate driver also has protection functions such as under-voltage lockout, over-voltage protection with configurable threshold VREF, as well as fault communication and automatic fault clearing. The output drivers have a high pulse current buffer stage designed for minimum cross-conduction of the drivers.
The Motix 6ED2742S01Q gate driver is durable with thermal management and is described as suitable for battery-powered applications from 10.8 to 120V.
Other features include integrated low RON through fast bootstrap diodes, integrated short pulse / noise reduction input filter, Schmitt trigger inputs with hysteresis and outputs in phase with inputs (3.3V, 5.0V input logic compatible).
