Rutronik brings Panjit’s FREDs for efficient power to linecard

Rutronik has added the Optima and Speedy high voltage FREDs (fast recovery epitaxial diodes) with 600V and 1200V, respectively, from Panjit to its product range. The power diodes improve the system efficiency of an application and are used for low frequency (Optima) or high frequency (Speedy) applications.

The diodes feature low leakage current and EMI characteristics, making the FREDs suitable for rectifier or freewheeling circuits in power applications, such as uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) systems, data centres and household appliances. They can be used in PCs and networks, energy storage systems, battery management systems, industrial motors, welding equipment, digital TVs and inverters for photovoltaic systems.

The stability of power supply systems depends on the electrical properties of the power diodes used. A FRED has to target switching frequency of the planned application. Optima-type FREDs are suitable for rectifier circuits such as high-power bridge diodes and bypass diodes, optimised for lower power losses at low VF, and pre-destined for low switching frequency applications. Speedy-FREDs are more suitable for high frequency freewheeling switching in CCM boost PFC and Vienna PFC to achieve maximum system efficiency. They have low reverse recovery time (trr) and optimised Vf.
