SuperTan capacitors meet military H-level shock and vibration limits

Tantalum-cased wet tantalum capacitors in Vishay Intertechnology’s STH electrolytic capacitor range provide military H-level shock and vibration capabilities. The hermetically sealed devices are reliable for use in avionics and aerospace applications at a reduced cost, said the company.

The series of wet tantalum capacitors with hermetic glass-to-metal seals provide all the advantages of Vishay’s SuperTan extended series devices while offering a higher reliability design for improved military H-level shock (500 g) and vibration (sine: 80g; random: 54 g) capabilities. They also offer increased thermal shock up to 300 cycles.

By providing military H-level performance in a SuperTan series, the STH capacitors offer a lower cost alternative to hi-rel wet tantalum capacitors while ensuring the high reliability required by more aggressive mission profiles, confirmed Vishay.

The devices feature high capacitances from 470 to 1500 microF in the D case code and capacitance tolerances of ± 20 per cent standard at 120Hz and +25 degrees C, with tolerances of ± 10 per cent available. The STH series operates over a temperature range of -55 to +85 degrees C, to +125 degrees C with voltage derating. They also provide low ESR down to 0.50 Ohm at 120Hz and +25 degrees C. The capacitors feature standard tin / lead (Pb) terminations, with RoHS-compliant 100 per cent tin terminations available.

The STH series is optimised for energy storage in power supplies, actuators, transponders, and radio, radar, and missile systems, in addition to oil drilling and underwater equipment.

Samples and production quantities of the new STH wet tantalum capacitors are available now, with lead times of 16 to 20 weeks for larger orders.
Vishay manufactures a large portfolios of discrete semiconductors and passive electronic components used in the automotive, industrial, computing, consumer, telecommunications, military, aerospace, and medical markets.
