TDK adds Epcos film capacitors for extreme environments

DC link capacitors designed for extreme environmental conditions, extend TDK’s B3277 M series.

A THB (temperature, humidity, bias) test was conducted at 85 degrees C, 85 per cent relative humidity with a rated voltage applied for 1,000 hours.

The capacitors of the new series are designed for rated voltages of between 450 and 1,600V DC and offer capacitance values of between 0.33 and 120 micro Farad. The RoHS-compatible capacitors operate at up to +105°C. Depending on the voltage and capacitance, the lead spacings are 27.5, 37.5 and 52.5mm. A two- or four-pin version is available for each lead spacing.

The service life of the self-healing capacitors is 50,000 hours at the rated voltage and an operating temperature of 85 degrees C.

Typical applications include DC links of converters for photovoltaic plants, frequency converters and power supplies for industrial applications. The series is qualified in accordance with AEC-Q200.

The TDK electronics company is based in Tokyo, Japan. It was established in 1935 to commercialise ferrite, a key material in electronic and magnetic products. TDK’s portfolio features passive components such as ceramic, aluminium electrolytic and film capacitors, as well as magnetics, high-frequency, and piezo and protection devices. The product spectrum also includes sensors and sensor systems such as temperature and pressure, magnetic, and MEMS sensors.

TDK also provides power supplies and energy devices and magnetic heads. The company’s products are marketed under the product brands TDK, Epcos, InvenSense, Micronas, Tronics and TDK-Lambda.

TDK focuses on demanding markets in the areas of information and communication technology and automotive, industrial and consumer electronics. The company has a network of design and manufacturing locations and sales offices in Asia, Europe, and in North and South America.
