Test fixture takes irregular shapes for surface mount and leaded components
Various shapes and sizes of components can be tested using the IM9202 test fixture from Hioki. It is available from MDL Technologies. It is for use with surface mount and leaded components and for use with Hioki’s IM7580 range of high-performance impedance analysers.
The versatile fixture makes testing easier, and enables more reliable and repeatable measurements, higher throughput, fewer handling errors and greater measurement accuracy, says MDL. Making it simple to test complex components results in time and cost savings, says the company.
The IM9202 can hold surface mount devices of irregular shape as well as axial and radial leaded components, including film capacitors and RFID and NFC tags. Surface mount devices from 1.6 to 23mm long can be tested as well as radial components with lead spacings of up to 26mm.
It is these components which are frequently used in power circuits with switching frequencies above 1.0MHz. It is standard practice to test their characteristics at frequencies above 10MHz. The IM9202 is suitable for testing at frequencies from 0 to 600MHz.
The IM9202 is designed for use with the Hioki IM7580 series impedance analysers. Five models are available, providing measurement frequency bands up to 3GHz. With a half-rack footprint and a palm-sized test head, they offer test speeds as fast as 0.5ms with a repeatability of 0.07 per cent.
Applications for the test fixture include the research and development of large or irregular shape components for use in high power, high frequency circuits, as well as components and antennae for RFID and NFC circuits.
Hioki was founded in Japan in 1935 and specialises in current sensors, power analysis and battery measurement technology.
It claims to be the only test and measurement manufacturer who offers power analysers and also ring-type transducers, current clamps and current sensors from its own development and production.
In addition to power meters and current sensors, Hioki’s product range also includes data loggers and recorders, battery testers, high-voltage testing equipment, precision resistance meters, LCR meters, insulation meters, power quality analysers and digital multimeters.
In 2017 Hioki established Hioki Europe.
