Thin film chips on AlN combine high power with precision
Thin film chips on aluminium nitride (AlN) have been announced by TT Electronics. The TFHP series offers circuit designers high power and high precision in a single resistor product, said the company.
The TFHP product family has an AIN ceramic substrate which provides nearly six times the conductivity of alumina, the conventional substrate material for chip resistors. The high power density component saves PCB area and can boost reliability by restricting the temperature rise in the component hotspot, said TT Electronics. The enhanced heat transfer from element to terminals of the TFHP series chip resistors are optimised for precision power supply, power amplifier and process control applications.
“Aluminium nitride-based TFHP with the precision of thin film technology . . . gives designers the opportunity to reduce component size, minimise temperature rise, and increase reliability of their high-power analogue circuit designs,” said Nick Atkinson, senior product line manager, TT Electronics.
The TFHP series offers 2W in 1206 and 6W in 2512 chip sizes. The resistors also feature large area terminations for improved thermal contact with a PCB. These high power resistors also offer greater precision than thick film alternatives, delivering 0.1 per cent tolerance, 25ppm/ degrees C TCR combined with reduced self-heating to improve linearity.
TT Electronics designs and manufactures sensors, power management and connectivity solutions for healthcare, aerospace, defence, electrification and automation. TT has design and manufacturing facilities in the UK, North America, Sweden and Asia.
