Three-phase BLDC pre-driver IC reduces noise and vibration
For motors which require high rotation speeds, Toshiba Electronics Europe has introduced the TC78B011FTG three-phase brushless DC (BLDC) motor control pre-driver IC. Target applications are motors used for server fans, pumps, blowers and suction motors for cordless and robotic vacuum cleaners.
According to Toshiba, the sine-wave drive method reduces the IC’s vibration and noise. The sensorless design saves the space and cost associated with a Hall sensor while the built-in closed loop speed control regulates and maintains the motor’s rotational speed during dynamic power supply fluctuations and load variations without the need for an external microcontroller. The speed profile can be programmed with precision using the built-in non-volatile memory (NVM).
It operates from a supply voltage ranging from 5.5 to 27V and includes selectable closed loop or open loop speed control. Speed can be controlled through a PWM signal, analogue voltage or via the I²C interface. The I2C interface is also used to control various settings within the device. A standby function further improves overall system efficiency, added Toshiba Electronics Europe.
The TC78B011FTG is packaged in a P-WQFN36-0505-0.50-001 package with a footprint of 5.0 x 5.0mm and a height of 0.8mm.
The IC joins the TC78B009FTG device which uses trapezoidal control.
The TC78B011FTG is in production and is shipping now.
