USB connector is waterproof with IP rated sealing
Waterproof connectors make up the aquanex range from GCT. The Micro USB brings together high-performance USB connectors with “excellent IP rated sealing” says GCT. The first connector to be launched is the USB3500, a horizontal mid-plane mounted micro USB connector sealed to IP67.
The shell of the USB3500 is made from a single-piece stainless steel construction using a metal injection moulding manufacturing process, then plated in nickel. A silicon seal is moulded to the connector profile to ensure reliability against the flange, creating an optimal seal. The one piece metal injected shell provides the USB3500 with a compact form factor at 10 x 4.0 x 5.3mm
Four mounting posts secure attachment to the PCB and reduce assembly time as no screws or fixing is required. Operating temperature is -20 to +85 degrees C and the USB3500 is durable with over 10,000 mounting cycles.
Paul Hulatt, GCT product manager says: “We’re seeing increasing demand for water and dustproof connectors and the USB3500 is only the beginning . . . We will be pushing the boundaries and performance in the USB segment by offering more innovative IP-rated solutions,” he added.
Two new micro USB variants, a unique vertical mounted connector and a top of PCB version will be added to the range later in 2019.
