Vishay’s new photovoltaic MOSFET drivers available from Rutronik
Rutronik distributes the new VOMDA1271 optocoupler from Vishay. The AEC-Q102-qualified driver combines high performance with greater design flexibility as well as lower costs and is the first device of its kind to be developed with an integrated cut-off for the automotive industry, among others. It delivers the fastest switching times and the highest open-circuit voltage in the industry. The component is available in a space-saving SOP-4 housing at www.rutronik24.com.
At 0.05 ms, the switch-on time is around twice as fast as components from other manufacturers. At typically 80 μs, the integrated turn-off circuit provides the fastest turn-off time for a MOSFET driver in the compact SOP-4 format. The Vishay photovoltaic MOSFET driver is also the only one of its kind in this package size with an isolation voltage of 3.750 V and a typical open-circuit output voltage of 8.5 V.
The optically isolated VOMDA1271 is equipped with an AIGaAs infrared LED (IRLED) whose light is absorbed by a photovoltaic gate array and thus generates the voltage to switch on a MOSFET. This design eliminates the need for an external power supply and reduces costs through the simplified design. For even more design flexibility, the driver can be controlled via the GPIO pin of a microcontroller. It is halogen-free, RoHS-compliant, and intended for use in pre-charging circuits, wall chargers, and battery management systems (BMS) for electric and hybrid electric vehicles (EV and HEV), for example.
