NuCurrent believes it wins smartphone race with Qi-charging antennae
CES 2018: NuCurrent has launched the Q15 line of Qi-compliant smartphone antennae. According to the company the next smartphone feature race will be won with the 15W wireless antenna. CEO Jacob Babcock described it as the “natural next step in the evolution of the technology.”
Immediately available, the 15W antennae, designed for fast-charging, next-generation smartphones, are claimed to be the industry’s thinnest and most efficient.
Smartphone manufacturers are now able to take advantage of the design flexibility afforded by the NuCurrent antennae, which are available on flexible printed substrates. With an antenna thickness of only 0.2mm, smartphone manufacturers can now offer more efficient and faster wireless charging while keeping form factors extremely thin.
For thin-form phones, a 15W, Qi-compliant charge is only possible with NuCurrent’s MLMT technology, says Babcock.
Based on NuCurrent testing, wireless charging rates for current smartphone models top 8W on Samsung devices and 7.5W on Apple devices. For phones that incorporate NuCurrent’s 15W antennae, users will get more power to their batteries in a shorter period, says NuCurrent, resulting in a superior wireless charging experience.
NuCurrent delivers breakthroughs in wireless power through magnetics and full-system integration expertise. The company’s core technologies include its patented MLMT antennas – which are the claimed to be the industry’s thinnest and most efficient (highest Q) – along with proprietary software that accelerates successful wireless power solution development through advanced hardware simulation and firmware control. NuCurrent’s engineering team applies these core technologies in partnership with client product teams to produce complete wireless power solutions on the Qi and Airfuel Standards and within closed, proprietary systems.
