TT Electronics to design and develop a DC/DC converter for Tempest
TT Electronics has been awarded a contract from BAE Systems to design, develop and qualify a DC/DC converter for Tempest’s flight control system. Tempest is the next-generation combat aircraft, which will replace the Typhoon aircraft in the UK RAF fleet from 2035. The Tempest aircraft will deploy new, game-changing technology and is set to join the RAF fleet from 2035, replacing the Typhoon.
Team Tempest is made up of a group of industry partners: BAE Systems, Rolls Royce, Leonardo and MBDA. The partners work with the RAF’s Rapid Capabilities Office and the Ministry of Defence to develop the technologies needed for the next generation of combat aircraft.
The flight control system will use TT Electronics’ engineering capabilities to deliver power conversion functionality to a number of elements within the flight control system.
“BAE Systems are one of the most recognised names in the global defence industry and play a leading role in many of the world’s most advanced military platforms,” said Ben Fox, business development director, Power Solutions, TT Electronics. “Our initial project is to supply the company’s facility in Warton in support of Team Tempest. This exciting collaboration with BAE Systems provides an excellent opportunity to support our fellow industry partners, proudly working to revolutionise
