LED drivers in DFN package save PCB space
A range of LED drivers in a DFN package and with side-wettable flanks is available from Nexperia. The AEC-Q101-qualified DFN2020D-6 devices save up to 90 per cent PCB space, says the company. The side-wettable flanks enable automated inspection (AOI) and improve reliability, claims Nexperia.
The DFN2020D-6 LED drivers are supplied in the space saving SOT1118D package. This case style features side-wettable flanks (SWF) which facilitate the use of AOI and improve reliability. This is the first time LED drivers have been available in this package, says Nexperia. Compared with the company’s range of LED drivers in leaded packages offers equivalent performance yet reduces PCB space by up to 90 per cent compared to SOT223 packages, says the company.
The footprint is 2.0 x 2.0mm and the profile is just 0.65mm and the LED drivers are available in NPN and PNP technology. Output current is up to 250mA (NCR32x types) and maximum supply voltage is 75V. According to Nexperia, their high thermal power capability is at least equal to any other package for LED drivers.
The use of side-wettable flanks can also be of interest to automotive customers to improve reliability. Devices with side-wettable flanks exhibit a greater resistance to shear forces, and can handle greater board flexing without cracking than devices without side-wettable flanks, adds the company.
The DFN2020D-packaged parts with SWF can be used in general lighting, white goods and automotive designs. Nexperia will also offer leaded surface mount technology styles to allow customers choice in LED lighting.
Four DFN2020D-6 LED drivers are in mass production now.
