Dual-channel H-bridge motor driver IC has PWM control

Meeting the requirements of today’s mains-, 5V USB- and battery-powered equipment, the TC78H660FNG is the latest H-bridge motor driver IC, based on Toshiba Electronics Europe’s latest generation DMOS process.

The TC78H660FNG can deliver a PWM-controlled current of 2A (maximum). It runs on a 2.5 to 16V input supply voltage and can drive two brushed DC motors or a single stepper motor.

On-resistance in typical operating conditions is just 0.48 Ohms. According to Toshiba, this is advantageous for thermal management, as there is “considerably less heat” to be dissipated, which saves system cost and space.

The TC78H660FNG driver is suitable for a broad range of applications, such as mobile devices running from a 3.7V Li-Ion battery and 5V USB-powered equipment, as well as 12V-rated household appliances. For energy efficient operation, it has low current requirements in standby mode, drawing just 0.1 microA, reports Toshiba.

Safety features include under-voltage lockout, over-current detection and thermal shut down. The IC is supplied in a compact 5.0 x 6.4mm TSSOP16 package.

Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) is the European electronic components business of Toshiba Electronic Devices and Storage Corporation (Toshiba). TEE offers European consumers and businesses a variety of hard disk drive (HDD) products and semiconductors for automotive, industrial, IoT, motion control, telecomms, networking, consumer applications and white goods.
