XP Power adds 1500W DC power supplies for automotive and aerospace testing
Introduced to complement its 600W PLS600 series, XP Power has launched the PLS1500, programmable DC power supply range. The 1500W rated, 1U high, 19-inch rack-mount programmable DC power supplies can be used for higher power equipment in a variety of OEM, industrial, and laboratory applications. For example, says XP Power, they can be used in component, automotive and aerospace testing, medical, semiconductor fabrication, broadcast, and telecomms.
There are five models in the PLS1500 series offering DC output voltages of 30V, 50V, 100V, 200V, and 400V, all rated at 1500W. Up to four units can be connected in parallel (master/slave mode) for higher power (6kW). In addition, up to two can be connected in series for higher voltage (up to 800V) and power requirements.
The output voltage and current can be adjusted using the digital rotary controls on the front panel. They are velocity-sensitive, so a slow turn allows fine adjustment to an accuracy of 0.1 per cent. The inbuilt 12-bit DACs and ADCs converters allow the units to also measure voltage and current with similar accuracy. This capability saves users the added expense and space for extra measuring instruments.
On the rear of the power supply are ports that allow for remote control via USB, Ethernet and analogue control inputs. The USB and Ethernet inputs are SCPI (standard commands for programmable instruments) -compliant, supporting LabVIEW and interchangeable virtual instrument (IVI) drivers. The PLS1500 is also LXI-certified to meet the interoperability standards for LAN-based instruments.
Remote sense allows use of the PLS1500 with loads that are located away from the unit. To avoid any damage to the unit under test (UUT),protection features, namely, inbuilt over-voltage protection (OVP), over-current protection (OCP) and overpower protection (OPP), limit the output current and voltage.
All models within the PLS1500 series are certified to IEC 60950-1 and IEC 62368-1 (EN/UL/CSA) safety standards. The units are CE-marked in compliance with the EMC Directive 89/336/EEC for Class A products and comply with the Canadian ICES-001 standard.
The PLS1500 series is available now directly from XP Power or approved regional distributors and international distributors (Digi-Key, Farnell, Mouser). The power supplies come with a three-year warranty.
