AEC-Q200 common mode choke suppresses EMI in harsh environments

Based on a nanocrystalline metal core, the SCF-XV common mode choke achieves higher inductance and impedance values, said Kemet, in addition to a broad frequency response. It is also claimed to have a smaller footprint than other common mode chokes currently available.

Part of the Yageo Group, electronic components supplier, Kemet said that the SCF-XV series of AEC-Q200 qualified common mode chokes fulfils the growing need for high voltage automotive and harsh environment industrial EMI filtering applications. The SCF-XV series offers up to 1,000V AC/DC, the highest rated voltage, said Kemet. The nanocrystalline metal core results in a reduced footprint, rated current range from 5.0 to 35A and DC resistance from 0.65 to 40.3 mOhm. It has an operating temperature range from -40 to +150 degrees C, two different layouts (vertical/horizontal), and three different outer core diameters (19, 25 and 29mm). The toroidal coils are designed with nanocrystalline metal cores and can be used in various noise countermeasures and for EMI suppression.

The SCF-XV is suitable for automotive and harsh environment industrial applications (robotics, high voltage power supplies, high reliability). It joins Kemet’s existing automotive-grade common mode chokes, the SCR-XV and SCT-XV.

Devices comparable to the SCF-XV use ferrite coils are not always AEC-Q200 qualified, have a maximum 750V AC/DC and have a larger footprint, Kemet asserted. With a rated 1,000V AC/DC and AEC-Q200 qualification, the SCF-XV, SCR-XV and SCT-XV, are suitable for use in the EV automotive market.

SCF-XV supports the industry’s trend to increase the vehicle-installed Lithium-ion battery pack voltage to limit drive train currents. It is also in line with the trend of miniaturisation and operation in harsh environmental conditions. Applications include onboard chargers for EV/PHEV, E-compressors, wireless charging systems with 85kHz, medium power drives for power steering, air conditioning and mild hybrid 48V systems.

The SCF-XV series is available immediately via Kemet distributors.
