AEC-Q200-qualified thick film power resistor mounts on a heatsink

Designed for automotive applications, the Vishay Sfernice LTO 150 offers power dissipation of 150W at a +45 degree C case temperature and an improved pulse handling capability. Its design includes a clip mount TO247 for direct mounting onto a heatsink.

The AEC-Q200-qualified thick film power resistor provides up to 70 per cent higher power dissipation than competing devices in the TO247 package, claims Vishay. This reduces the need for components to cool the resistor, which saves board space, simplifies layouts and reduces costs, continues the company. These benefits are amplified by the LTO 150’s 30 per cent improvement in energy handling compared with similar TO247 devices, which allows designers to utilise fewer resistors.

High temperature operation is up to +175 degree C and resistance values range from 0.03 Ohm to 1.3 MOhm. The LTO 150 serves as the pre-charge or discharge resistor for inverters, converters, and on-board chargers for electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), and plugged hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). The LTO 150 can also be used in general industrial and military power conversion applications. The RoHS-compliant device offers a non-inductive design, tolerances down to ± one per cent, and reliability test results (i.e. extensive temperature cycling from 1,000 cycles and above).

Samples and production quantities of the LTO 150 resistor are available now, with lead times of eight to 12 weeks.

Vishay Intertechnology manufactures discrete semiconductors (diodes, MOSFETs, and infrared optoelectronics) and passive electronic components (resistors, inductors, and capacitors). Its products are used in virtually all types of electronic devices and equipment, in the industrial, computing, automotive, consumer, telecommunications, military, aerospace, power supplies, and medical markets.
