Anybus CompactCom protects industrial IoT communication for devices

Designed for both EtherNet/IP and ProfiNet, the Anybus CompactCom industrial IoT Secure now includes a version with a security platform for IIoT communication over OPC UA and MQTT. The CompactCom range supports developers by accelerating the path to secure IIoT communication without having to redesign the device, says HMS Networks.

The CompactCom IIoT Secure from HMS Networks enables device manufacturers to connect industrial devices to all major industrial Ethernet networks. Industrial IoT (IIoT) connectivity is already supported via OPC UA (open platform communications unified architecture) and message queue telemetry transport (MQTT).

To meet the requirements for next-level data security in the IIoT, which requires data from automation devices to reach the cloud in a secure way, needs full security for the OPC UA or MQTT communication itself, as well as during file transfer and on web pages. The data must be encrypted, and the integrity of any given data system must be guaranteed to prevent data theft, tampering, or sabotage.

The CompactCom IIoT Secure is believed to be the first complete embedded security product on the market. The embedded security product enables fully secure communication from devices in the field to the cloud, said HMS Networks. It features new powerful security hardware, secure boot, certificate management, encryption, as well as secure OPC UA and MQTT communication.

New software and hardware elements include the encryption of data sent to the cloud using secure OPC UA channels or the use of encrypted traffic via MQTT over transport layer security (TLS).

There is also a secure boot functionality, ensuring use of only HMS firmware and authentication is through advanced certificate management and secure access and file transfer over TLS using HTTPS and WebDAV.

The Compact Com IIoT Secure also includes new certified hardware prepared for security and industrial use. For example, there is a security chip which ensures full product integrity and identity, says HMS Networks.

Pre-conformance testing helps customers to achieve product certification.

The Compact Com IIoT complies with applicable EMC and UL-standards.

HMS Networks supplies Anybus, Ixxat and Ewon communication products for industrial communication and the industrial IoT. Communication solutions for building automation are offered through the subsidiary, Intesis.

Development and manufacturing take place at the headquarters in Halmstad, Sweden and in Ravensburg, Nivelles, Igualada and Wetzlar. The company has local sales and support branch offices in Germany, USA, Japan, China, Singapore, Italy, France, Switzerland, Spain, India, UK, Sweden, Finland, South Korea and UAE, as well as through a worldwide network of distributors and partners.
