Balanced power amplifier can be used in SatCom-Vsat applications
High-linearity Ka-band power amplifiers from Macom Technology Solutions now include the MAAP-011250. It is suited to next generation commercial VSAT outdoor units and uses a balanced design for a consistent match regardless of the board impedance, says the company.
Demand for high speed, broadband, data connectivity means changes in fixed wired networks, such as HFC and fibre, as well as terrestrial wireless networks and SatCom. Requirements for increased data rates and bandwidth drive higher power, higher frequency and higher linearity MMICs, which has prompted the introduction of the 4.0W amplifier, to join the 2.0, 2.3, 3.0 and 7.0W power output options spanning frequencies ranging from 27 to 31.5GHz.
The latest GaAs-based Ka-Band power amplifiers can provide strong linear gain, which is expected to enable customers to efficiently increase the power from the input to the output port with minimal tradeoffs.
The MAAP-011250 is a balanced 4.0W, four-stage power amplifier assembled in a lead-free, 5.0mm, 32-lead AQFN plastic package. It operates from 27.5 to 30GHz and provides 24dB of linear gain, 4.0W saturated output power and output IP3 of 41dBm while biased at 6.0V. The MAAP-011250 can be used as a power amplifier stage or as a driver stage in higher power applications. The amplifier complements Macom’s portfolio of Ka-Band gain block amplifiers, drivers, mixers and power amplifiers to deliver a complete chipset for high-performance wireless broadband data links.
Macom designs and manufactures semiconductor products for data centre, telecommunications and industrial and defence applications.
The company is headquartered in Lowell, Massachusetts and has design centres and sales offices throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
