Board-mount 5W AC/DC is designed for harsh environments

The RAC05-K/PD3/H from Recom is a board-mounted 5W Class II AC/DC converter series. It is designed to be used in ‘fixed installations’ where higher levels of transients (according to OVCIII, or over-voltage category III) are experienced, together with increased environmental pollution levels.

The converters are available with 5.0, 12 or 15V single outputs and include enhanced clearances to meet OVCIII up to 5,000m altitude. Nominal input ratings are 100 to 277V AC but the parts will withstand 480V AC without damage continuously. The series is rated for operation in Pollution Degree 3 environments, where pollution can become conductive if condensation occurs.

The RAC05-K/PD3-H series is protected against short circuits and over-voltage in case of internal abnormalities and meets EN 55032 Class B EMI emissions level (floating output), without external components. No-load consumption is less than 0.5W to meet eco-design directives.

AC/DC converters are offered in a 2.0 x 1.0 x 1.0 inch package and operate to 70 degrees C in free air and to 85 degrees C (12V part) with 40 per cent derating. Certifications include IEC/EN 62368-1 and UL 61010-1.

Michael Schrutka, Recom’s AC/DC product manager commented that the 5W AC/DC converters will find applications in smart grid, renewable energy, smart metering and IoT systems, as well as monitoring food and beverage processing appliances.

Recom Power manufactures a full range of standard and customised DC/DC and AC/DC converters in every power class from sub-1W to tens of kW, alongside switching regulators and LED drivers in a wide selection of formats.

The company headquarters are located in Gmunden, Austria, and include a logistics research and development centre and laboratory wing. The company has a worldwide distribution network.
