Box kit supports IoT development for industrial use

An asset monitoring platform kit from TT Electronics is designed to support engineers deliver rapid IoT deployment at heavy industrial sites and in areas of weak connectivity.

The IoT Out of the Box kit was developed in collaboration with asset monitoring and positioning specialist, Wittra Sweden.

The kit by Wittra is powered by TT Electronics, bringing together TT’s engineering, design and manufacturing skills with the intelligent software capabilities from Wittra. The ruggedised kit uses patented solutions for tracking location over the sub-GHz frequency that allows for extended indoor and outdoor range. It enables users to connect, sense and locate their assets in tough environments such as heavy industrial sites and areas of weak connectivity. With pre-certified hardware, the kit is secure and ready for field deployment, says TT Electronics.

According to Charlie Peppiatt, executive vice president at TT Electronics, what distinguishes this IoT development kit is that it has everything an end user needs to get an IoT network up and running within minutes. “It features the latest connectivity protocols . . . and [the] ability to scale by simply adding to the kit to meet new requirements,” he added. TT provides solutions ranging from low frequency sensor networks right to 5G-enabled networks.

IoT Out of the Box includes a cloud gateway with cabled Ethernet or Wi-Fi connectivity, IP67 sensor tags, mesh router and rechargeable, long-life tag battery. Delivered with a cloud-based application programming interface (API), assets such as industrial equipment, tools, vehicles and medical devices, can be tracked to provide real-time data on, for example, location, movement, usage or temperature.

TT Electronics supplies engineered electronics for performance critical applications. It has 30 key locations around the world, and designs and manufactures a wide range of electronics for sensing, power management and connectivity for applications in the industrial, medical, aerospace and defence sectors.

In 2013, Wittra Sweden was founded as an IoT developer. It developed location intelligence technology which makes it possible to seamlessly track assets between the indoor and outdoor spheres, no matter what the environment. Wittra’s head office is located in Stockholm, Sweden.
