Brightworks announces PD3-compliant mobile chargers for OEMs

Offering fast USB charging for Apple and Samsung smartphones, cameras, tablets and laptops, Brightworks Technology has announced volume production of PD3.0-compliant fast mobile chargers for consumer and industrial applications.

Designed for long life and high reliability, the pocket-sized chargers, designed and manufactured by Brightworks, are available in 20W, 30W, 65W and 100W versions and are compatible with major brands including Apple, Samsung, Google and LG. They can be used for charging mobile phones, notebooks, tablets, portable devices, test instruments, and audio / video equipment. The four compact chargers with 65W and 100W models featuring exchangeable AC plugs are available with USB-A and USB-C ports in configurations from one to four ports.

The USB-C PD3.0 charger detects the connected device, whether a large laptop or a small phone, to deliver the right amount of power to charge that device quickly. This ensures fast charging without delivering too much power, which could damage battery circuitry.

Through the use of an intelligent communication protocol, the chargers automatically select the appropriate DC output voltage required for the user device to be charged (standard outputs are 5V, 9V, 12V, 15V and 20V).

With excellent full load efficiency, the PD3.0 chargers (30 watts and above) use GaN semiconductors making the chargers faster, smaller, cooler and more power-efficient than many other commodity chargers on the market.

Robert L. Carl, president of Brightworks Technology, commented: “Our high-level engineering design standards, low power controllers, thermal management, quality electrolytic capacitors, GaN semiconductors, and efficient layout contribute to the charger’s high quality, ruggedness, and compact size.”

The PD3 Series meets the U.S. Department of Energy’s Level 6 requirements and E.U. CoC requirements. Operating over a universal AC input ranging from 100V to 240V AC (90V AC to 264V AC), the mobile chargers provide a precise regulated single output voltage according to the demand of the PD3.0 device. The PD3 Series uses creative circuit design and optimised component placements to deliver what Brightworks described as excellent electrical and thermal performance.

The chargers can be mass-produced in custom colours with customer branding and retail packaging. In addition, interchangeable blades for international use are available. The company has a high-volume manufacturing campus in Vietnam.

Samples of the PD3 Series chargers are available now, and sales orders can be placed immediately. Samples will be on display during APEC (19 to 23 March) in Orlando, Florida, USA. Visit Brightworks at stand 108.
