Capacitors are for energy harvesting or back-up in harsh conditions
For harsh, high humidity environments, Vishay Intertechnology has introduced a series of ruggedised ENYCAP electrical double-layer energy storage capacitors for energy harvesting and power back-up applications in harsh, high humidity environments.
The Vishay BCcomponents 225 EDLC-R ENYCAP capacitors are believed to be the industry’s first to offer useful life of 2000 hours at +85 degree C and meet the highest class of moisture resistance: the biased 85 / 85 1000-hour test.
The long useful life of the capacitors is double that of standard electrical double-layer capacitors, enabling maintenance-free operation and greater design flexibility, says Vishay. The high humidity resistivity allows for use in a range of industrial, renewable energy, and automotive applications, including smart meters, handheld electronics, robotics, solar panels, E-latch door systems, and emergency lighting.
Eight small case sizes are available, ranging from 16 x 20mm to 18 x 40mm. The 225 EDLC-R ENYCAP capacitors offer high power density to 4.1Wh/kg, capacitance values from 20 to 60F, and a maximum rated voltage of 2.7V.
The capacitors are RoHS-compliant and feature rapid charge and discharge performance. They are available from Vishay in through-hole versions.
Samples and production quantities of the 225 EDLC-R ENYCAP capacitors are available now, with lead times of six weeks for larger quantities.
