Certification propels Infineon’s eID project

Electronic identification documents (eID) are in demand worldwide. In response to the evolving needs of the global market, Infineon Technologies has developed Secora ID security, combining Infineon’s security chip with software for integration into documents.

The company will be presenting the solution at Trustech, Cannes, France (26 to 28 November) solution. The addition to Infineon’s Secora family is certified and ready to be integrated into secure eID documents. Secora ID allows Java Card-based applications to run on smart cards and other small footprint devices, for ease of design, testing and deployment of eID projects, says the company.

Maurizio Skerlj, senior director ID solutions at Infineon, said: “With the Secora ID enablement platform, Infineon enables security printers and card manufacturers to progress further on their path towards digitalisation of governmental applications.”

It can be customised according to the specific requirements of national eID schemes, from electronic health cards and eDriver licences to multi-application identification, payment and public transport ticketing.

Secora ID supports contact-based, contactless as well as dual interface solutions, for a smooth transformation from today’s installed contact-based infrastructure to contactless digital identification, says the company.

Security is based on the latest standards such as Global Platform v2.3.1 and Java Card standard v3.0.5 and supports encryption mechanisms. The non-volatile memory of up to 450kbyte allows storage of personal data as well as biometric and visa information.

The operating system is targeted to be certified according to Common Criteria (CC) EAL 6+ and EMVCo. Applets are targeted to be certified according to Common Criteria EAL5+ and supported by the Infineon and Masktech’s applet collections and the ePasslet suite by cv crytovision. All Secora ID solutions will be available in widely used smartcard packages including innovative coil-on-module (CoM) packaging.

Delivery is scheduled for early 2020. Samples will be available upon request.

Infineon will present SECORA ID at Trustech, Cannes, France, 26 to 28 November, 2019, stand: RIV C 050.
