COM Express module features Intel Atom x6000E processor

Existing system performance can be boosted with Portwell’s PCOM-B645VGL, a COM Express Type 6 compact module.

The PCOM-B645VGL, COM Express Type 6 Compact module measures 95 x 95mm and is based on the 10nm Intel Atom x6000E series / Pentium / Celeron processors (formerly Elkhart Lake). The module supports up to four cores with 4.5 to 12W thermal dynamic performance (TDP) and integrates the Intel Gen 11 UHD Graphics Engine with triple displays to support 4K resolution.

The PCOM-B645VGL COM Express module includes a range of optional I/O flexibility, including Gen 3 PCI-Express. The module is designed to enable applications using Type 6 COM Express products to upgrade systems without changing existing carrier boards or entire computer system and to minimise the changes in software. Portwell claims that it provides a boost to the performance of customers’ existing systems and prolongs service life for another 10 or more years, maximising the return on investment.

The COM Express module supports up to 32Gbyte DDR4 3200MTera bit per second SDRAM on two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets with integrated in-band error code correction (IBECC) which allows more affordable standard memory to be used instead of the more expensive ECC memory (ECC or Non-ECC can be configured by BIOS). Operating in up to 3.0GHz in turbo mode increases cost-performance effectiveness, added Portwell. The module also offers two USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbits per second), 2.5GbE with the support of Intel time sensitive networking (TSN) and time co-ordinated computing (TCC) for real-time computing and control capability. There are also six PCI Express x1 Gen 3 (8.0GTerabit per second) expansion interfaces.

The PCOM-B645VGL maximises COM technology to produce a module that not only outputs under 4.5 to 12W for fan-less applications, but also supports a wide -40 to +85 degrees C industrial temperature range and wide voltage input from 9.0 to 18V. The PCOM-B645VGL is suitable for mission critical application in harsh environments, and applications such as industrial automation, factory automation, process control, embedded system for IIoT, edge computing, manufacturing, intelligent gateway, transportation.
