COM Express Module targets graphics and data performance

Optimised to support the design requirements of today’s high-performance applications that demand considerably higher computing and graphics performance as well as faster data processing, the MSC C6B-CFLH COM Express Type 6 module has been announced by Avnet Integrated.

The module integrates the i3-8100H 8th generation Intel Core processor which has four cores and a high clock frequency of 3.0GHz.

Typical applications for the MSC C6B-CFLH COM Express Type 6 module would be devices that accumulate large amounts of data which must be handled by the processor; for example, in medical systems, visualisation systems, analysis and measurement systems, industrial control systems, Industry 4.0 environments, and gaming systems. They can also be used in video surveillance, transmission technology, streaming/broadcasting and media production.

The MSC C6B-CFLH module’s Intel Core-i3 with 6Mbyte cache has a thermal design power (TDP) of either 35 or 45W. A total of up to 32Gbyte of DDR4-2666 DRAM can be inserted into the board via two SO-DIMM slots. For increased security, optionally error checking and correction (ECC) is supported if appropriate ECC memory modules are used. To protect against unauthorised access, the board is equipped with a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) with security and encryption functions compliant to the requirements of the Trusted Computing Group (TCG).

The integrated and powerful Intel UHD Graphics 630 allows the simultaneous operation of up to three independent 4K displays. Three DisplayPort/HDMI/DVI outputs as well as optionally embedded DisplayPort (eDP)/LVDS are available as graphic interfaces. The computer-on- module is supplied with hardware-based video encoding and decoding up to 4K resolution. DirectX 12 is supported as well as OpenCL 2.1 and OpenGL 4.5.

Industrial interfaces available are eight PCI Express Gen 3 x1 lanes, one PEG x16 Gen 3 interface, four SATA 6 Gb/s, four USB 3.1/2.0, and four USB 2.0.

The processor boards in the basic form factor can be operated in temperatures ranging from 0 to +60 degrees C. The maximum power consumption is between 35 and 55W, depending on the operating mode. The modules support all common Linux operating systems as well as the 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows 10 and Windows 10 IoT.

The scalable MSC C6B-CFLH module family is optionally equipped with Intel Core i7, Core i5, Core i3 or Intel Xeon processors.

For rapid prototyping of the module, Avnet Integrated also offers a compatible Mini-ITX carrier board and a complete starter kit.

Avnet Integrated ensures that its new modules with 8th generation Intel Core processors will be available for fifteen years from the date of product introduction.
