Compact LEDs are alternatives to integrated into UV-C tubes
UV LEDs with emission wavelength of 275nm are suitable for disinfecting areas where chemical components are not suitable. The wavelength kills germs by destroying the RNA structure of viruses and bacteria, explains Würth Elektronik.
For germicide cleaning of different surfaces, or for air and water disinfection, the robust, compact LEDs, with low driving voltage, short switching times can be used in place of UV-C tubes.
“Our LEDs are built to maximise the efficiency output. We can achieve this by better light extraction, due to highly transparent quartz glass,” explained Zhelio Andreev, product developer at Würth Elektronik eiSos.
Low thermal resistance ceramic substrate reduce heating effects in the chip and increase lifetime, he continued. Application areas are medical hygiene and water and air purification, food and surface sterilisation.
Würth Elektronik eiSos offers the ray files for all UV-C products. Optical simulations can be done easier, and shorten the development time for the application, says Würth. An application note ANO008 describes the basics of UV-C disinfection and the application of UV-C LEDs. In also includes tips for working with UV-C light.
