Compact SM TVS diodes are hi-rel for aerospace, says Littelfuse
Offering high reliability and a 66 per cent increase in surge handling, the 5.0SMDJxxS-HRA TVS diode series is suitable for aerospace and avionics applications, said Littelfuse.
They can be used for up-screen components to deliver aircraft electrical protection against lightning strikes and other transient surges.
The TVS diodes are designed, manufactured, and screened to provide robust over-voltage protection, with low early failures and zero degradation over continuous surge events.
They are needed because today’s aircraft use more, new composite materials, which requires higher-level lightning protection for the plane’s electrical and electronic equipment. The reliable 5.0SMDJxxS-HRA TVS diode series has been developed for aircraft subsystems. They protect sensitive electronic equipment from voltage transients induced by lightning and other transient voltage events.
Littelfuse manufactures these TVS diodes using a stringent process for up-screening electronic components. The diodes are available in a 5000W surface mount DO-214AB package with a high power density of up to 5kW.
The 5.0SMDJxxS-HRA TVS diode series is intended for use in applications that require high reliability under harsh environments, for example aerospace, avionics, and aircraft subsystems (e.g., cockpit displays, fight control, radar), aircraft power trains, AC or DC power line protection, low frequency data lines, industrial automation and any applications which are in harsh environmental conditions.
The 5.0SMDJxxS-HRA TVS diode series is in the same compact surface mount package as prior models to provide increased electronics protection performance and greater design flexibility, said Charlie Cai, a senior product marketing manager at Littelfuse. The up-screened TVS diodes help aerospace electronics designers meet demanding high-grade regulatory requirements without needing to increase the size of PCBs, he added.
The 5.0SMDJxxS-HRA TVS diode series is supplied in a small JEDEC DO-214AB (SMC) package which, coupled with a high power density of 5kW, provides board designers with a space-saving alternative to currently available options.
The diodes meet DO-160 lightning protection regulatory requirements and features a low clamping voltage and unlimited surge life.
The 5.0SMDJxxS-HRA TVS diode series is available in tape and reel format through authorised Littelfuse distributors worldwide.
