CompactPCI Serial development platform provides open access

E-Frame test and development platforms from Elma Electronic now includes a 3U Compact PCI Serial-based system. The Type 39 E-Frame features a nine-slot backplane comprised of one system slot and eight peripheral slots, with Ethernet routed as full mesh. It is designed for developing cPCI Serial-based applications for use in rugged and mobile applications, including railway and defence.

The open, intuitive design of the Type 39 E-Frame chassis enables easy access to boards and components to facilitate probing and debugging of a system and its components during integrated testing and application development. Once verified testing methods are completed, system designers can implement final applications more quickly, points out Elma.

Boris Micha, global product line systems manager for Elma, explained: “CompactPCI Serial was developed for high-speed processing applications, in the range of 12Gbits per second”. To develop reliable deployed systems, designers need a test platform that could handle these requirements, which is why this was based on this industry standard.

The Type 39 E-Frame’s front panel features two voltage test points as well as an on/off and reset switch and a 12V LED indicator.  An ample, low-cost 300W ATX power supply delivers power to the nine-slot backplane.

The nine-slot, 3U cPCI Serial E-Frame system has a compact structure and convenient carrying handle for use in laboratories or desktop environments.

For cooling, the platform has a removable front fan tray that features dual 140 cfm fans as well as three 55 cfm fans in the rear to cool the rear transition modules.

A 75W power supply powers the fans and perforated rear panels ensure proper air intake and exhaust.

Elma Electronic manufactures commercial, industrial and rugged electronic products for embedded systems and application-ready platforms. Its product range includes components, embedded boards, backplanes, chassis and enclosures, power supplies, to fully integrated subsystems.

It also offers standard and custom cabinets and enclosures and precision components such as rotary switches/encoders, LEDs, front panels and small cases.
