Configurable power supply quadruples power density, says Advanced Energy

A configurable power supply released by Advanced Energy Industries is claimed to have four times the power density of conventional products. The first member of the company’s NeoPower family, the NP08 is for multi-output industrial and medical power supplies. It has best in class power density of 18W/in3 combined with digital communication options, said the company.

The configurable AC/DC configurable industrial and medical power supplies has eight output power slots for rapid and flexible configuration. In addition to the power density of 18W/in3 it is rated at up to 4,000W. The NP08 also has integrated communications capabilities with optional dongles that support all common digital communication protocols without the need for design changes or modifications.

María Cortez, Advanced Energy’s senior vice president for Industrial Power Products, commented: “NeoPower leverages AE’s expertise in high efficiency server power supply design with our deep experience in configurable to speed development of high density configurable power conversion systems that are precisely tailored to the needs of demanding applications”.

Designed for ease of configuration in both series and parallel implementations, the NP08 can be programmed as a voltage or a current source and operates with low noise performance. NP08 is qualified to all applicable standards including the medical BF (body floating) safety rating and the SEMI F47 standard relating to immunity from voltage sag.

AC inputs are 90 to 264V AC. Advanced Energy’s ConnectedPower portfolio of interface options allows the NP08 to support RS-485 (MODBUS RTU), PMBUS, and CANBUS (CANOPEN) protocols. This connectivity also makes the NP08 suitable for IoT applications requiring cloud-based monitoring and control, said the company.

Advanced Energy Industries specialises in the design and manufacture of precision power conversion, measurement and control solutions for mission-critical applications and processes. Customers operate in a wide range of industries including semiconductor equipment, industrial production, medical and life sciences, data centre computing, networking and telecommunications.

Advanced Energy is headquartered in Denver, Colorado, USA.
