congatec doubles RAM for Server-on-Modules

Embedded computer board and module company, congatec, has doubled the memory capacity on its Server-on-Modules. The conga-B7AC Server-on-Modules now support up to 96Gbyte DDR4 SO-DIMM memory on three sockets.

The Intel Atom C3000 processor-based conga-B7AC sets a new milestone for COM Express Type 7 based designs, says congatec. Memory is one of the most important performance levers for embedded edge server technologies, points out the company, crediting the performance increase to the Intel Atom C3000 family which supports the newly available 32Gbyte SO-DIMMs. The Server-on-Modules with a high-speed memory bandwidth of 2400Mtransfers per second are available now and can be ordered with and without ECC support.

For server applications, the fastest way to read and write values from a database is to fully load them into memory. The larger the databases, the more memory capacity is needed. There are many database applications in the field of embedded edge computing, such as network appliances for content delivery in video surveillance applications, IoT gateways or OPC UA servers in automation. A large RAM is also an intermediate buffer for big data analytics on-the-fly so that only smaller results need to be stored. Servers that host many virtual machines also benefit from the doubled memory capacity. With 96Gbyte RAM, 12 virtual machines now have 8Gbyte RAM available on each partition, making them particularly well suited for standard Linux or Windows installations.

The Server-on-Module footprint measures 125 x 95mm.

congatec supplies industrial computer modules using the standard form factors COM Express, Qseven and SMARC as well as single board computers (SBCs) and customising services. Its products can be used in a variety of industries and applications, such as industrial automation, medical, entertainment, transportation, telecommunications, test and measurement and point-of-sale (PoS) kiosks. The company offers comprehensive driver and board support packages.

After the design-in phase, customer support includes product lifecycle management.

Headquartered in Deggendorf, Germany, congatec currently has entities in USA, Taiwan, China, Japan and Australia as well as United Kingdom, France, and the Czech Republic
