Connectors and contacts perform in extreme conditions

High speed data integrity in rail, military vehicle and industrial applications can be delivered with the SteadiShield connector and OcTrain 10Gbit Ethernet contact by TT Electronics.

The SteadiShield and OcTrain are designed for extreme conditions, confirms TT Electronics and they also perform well in demanding telecomms and industrial markets.

The SteadiShield connector and the OcTrain 10Gbit Ethernet contact can be used in braking systems, trackside and signalling cables, drivers’ cabin equipment, and communications equipment.

SteadiShield is a reverse bayonet connector for designs requiring one connector with multiple Ethernet screens. A metalised insert provides instant screen termination within a common ground for improved reliability. The connector has significant power distribution capabilities and offers 360 degrees screening with no additional components required. Five multi-pole contact styles are available: the coax, twinax, triax, quadrax, and 10Gbit Ethernet (OcTrain).

OcTrain meets high speed connection requirements for heavy data use in harsh environments and are designed for compatibility with TT’s range of established ABMP connectors. The contact is suitable for 22 and 24AWG wire, CAT 6A and CAT 7 cable, and a range of cable jackets from 4.0 to 8.1mm.

The SteadiShield and OcTrain have quick disconnect and 500 mated cycles (minimum) operation and are RoHS- and EN45545-2 compliant. SteadiShield is sealed to IP67 and OcTrain can be sealed to the same standard within the connector. Both are easy to install, says TT and can be developed to meet interchangeable contacts, cable assembled versions and customised design capabilities.

TT designs and manufactures a wide range of electronics for sensing, power management and connectivity for applications in the industrial, medical, aerospace and defence and transportation sectors. TT Electronics has nearly 5,000 staff members operating from 29 key locations around the world.
