Connectors are solder-free and supply power directly to the board

Patented technology by Würth Elektronik features in the Redfit WR-WSP crimp Skedd direct connectors. The direct connectors are available for solder-free and tool-free assembly with up to five pins and are available in five different colour codings.

The connectors feature current capacity up to 16A, a 400V rated voltage and an operating temperature range of -25 to +105 degrees C. They feature an audibly locking reversible connection to the PCB to verify connection. They are acceleration tested to 10g. Redfit crimps are offered by Würth Elektronik as an alternative to soldered through hole jacks.

As electronic design becomes more compact surface mount technology is used more frequency; power connectors are often the only through hole technology component on a board, observed Würth Elektronik. Additional hand soldering or a wave soldering pass for a single component makes the manufacturing process more complex and thus more cost-intensive, continued the company. A conventional connector solution requires two components – one on the cable and the other on the PCB – but Skedd technology reduces the number of components needed and eliminates additional processes, said the company. The Redfit crimp Skedd connector can be optionally assembled against the direction of component placement without any additional workload, saving time and production costs.

The patented Skedd technology has been developed by Würth Elektronik. The direct connector with integrated reverse polarity protection has active locking with acoustic and haptic feedback. Redfit crimp connectors are available in black, red, white, yellow and blue, for colour coding to avoid errors when using multiple connectors. Contact to the power supply is established through the contacted holes in a 1.6mm thick PCB. The Skedd connector can be connected at a later date using convenient crimp cable assembly.

Redfit WR-WSP crimp Skedd is now available from stock. Free samples can be ordered directly from the Würth Elektronik online catalogue.
