DC/DC converters achieve 91 per cent efficiency

High efficiency and performance in the industry-standard sixteenth brick form factor are offered with the STB0xxxyyy-S-P-B50 series DC/DC converter modules from PowerGood. The STB series modules are based around isolated, PCB mount, fixed switching frequency DC/DC converters, which use synchronous rectification to achieve extremely high-power conversion efficiency of 91 per cent at 5.0V, says Ideal Power.

The modules offer a 2:1 / 4:1 ultra-wide input range (nine to 36 / 18 to 75 / 18 to 36 / 36 to 75), with input-to-output isolation of 2250V DC. They provide an output voltage trim range of -10 per cent, +10 per cent, and customisable output power of up to 60W. A fixed switching frequency provides consistent EMI, and the modules are RoHS-compliant.

The STB series converter modules are provided in a robust metal case, making them suitable for the harsh environments seen in many industrial and agriculture vehicle applications. They have an industry-standard, DOSA-compliant pin-out, and are compact in size, measuring 38 x 37 x 13mm (1.49 x 1.46 x 0.5-inch).

Operating temperature range is -40 to +70 degrees C, without derating, and reliability is improved because the modules do not include a constrained life-span capacitor, enabling them to achieve a mean time between failure (MTBF) of 1.6 million hours, says Ideal Power.

The converter modules are suited to telecomms, industrial control, datacomms, wireless networking and railway systems.

In 1989, PowerGood started out as a design house, and now manufactures DC/DC converters for customers around the world. Its products are used in applications including military, railway transportation, industrial automation, medical care, and new energy.

Ideal Power helps engineers in specifying, sourcing and supplying a range of power supplies, from typical external power supplies and battery chargers to internal power supplies and DC/DC converters. The company also offers bespoke power supply solutions and has a dedicated technical support team.
