Dual mode wireless modules support BLE and legacy Bluetooth modes

Fujitsu Components America announced two Bluetooth 5.0 dual mode wireless modules to simplify design and reduce time to market with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Bluetooth Classic Basic Rate / Enhanced Data Rate (BR / EDR) -compatible products.

The FWM7BTZ61 series of Bluetooth Ver. 5.0 (dual mode) wireless radio modules are powered by Cypress Semiconductor’s CYW20819 SoC and feature Bluetooth Low Energy profile and Bluetooth Classic (BR/EDR) power class 2 capabilities in a single module. The modules also support Bluetooth Ver. 5.0’s signature X2 communication.

The symbol rate and data rate accommodates both 1Mbits per second and improved 2Mbits per second to facilitate communication speed with other Bluetooth Low Energy devices. The Classic mode supports 1Mbits per second (Basic Rate) and 2Mbits per second and 3Mbits per second (EDR) communication.

Support for a wide range of operating voltages from 1.71 to 3.63V enables the modules to mate with various system design and power supply conditions.

The two certified modules accommodate different design needs, explains Fujitsu Components America. One version contains serial port profile (SPP) for Bluetooth Classic, and GATT profile for Bluetooth Low Energy. SPP is the most common profile for serial communication applications, while the Generic Attribute Profile (GATT) profile enables all Bluetooth communications with other modules through the GATT layer in the module by using a simple text command via UART.

The second version replaces the GATT Direct Access profile with Fujitsu Components’ embedded firmware, which enables simple text-based commands via UART to control all Bluetooth commands and parameters. It simplifies a customer’s firmware development, claims Fujitsu.

This model can also be connected to the Apple Authentication 3.0 co-processor (Auth. 3.0 CP) to send and receive data with application software on iOS devices. The Auth. 3.0 CP chip must be implemented on the customer’s equipment. To use the Auth. 3.0 CP chip with connection, an Apple MFi License Program is required.

Limited samples are available now and orders will be accepted in January 2021.

Fujitsu Components America markets and distributes electronic and system components and sub-systems. Products include relays, touch panels, thermal printers, wireless modules, and input and pointing devices.

The company is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, USA.
