Embedded boards by Aries Embedded are based on Renesas microprocessors

Two embedded boards released by Aries Embedded are based on Renesas’ RZ/G2UL and RZ/Five microprocessors. The MSRZG2UL and MSRZFive are supplied in system in packages (SiPs) and intended for use in industrial controls and IoT devices.

The MSRZG2UL and MSRZFive are based on Renesas’ single-core RZ/G2UL and RZ/Five respectively. The RZ/G2UL microprocessor includes a Cortex-A55 (1.0GHz) CPU and a Cortex M33 coprocessor. The RZ/Five has a RISC-V CPU core (AX45MP Single), also running at 1.0GHz. According to Andreas Widder, managing director of Aries Embedded, the choice of processor was an obvious one. “Renesas’ CPUs offer numerous interfaces and are therefore the ideal basis for our new system-on-modules [SoMs] for industrial gateway devices,” he explained.

“The new MSRZ SiPs are used in industrial controllers, IoT devices and other embedded systems with simple GUI functions,” he added.

The MSRZ SiP SoMs boards measures just 30 x 30mm. The modules conform to the Standardization Group for Embedded Technologies (SGET) Open Standard Module (OSM) standard. Each includes an LCD controller and can support 512Mbyte to 4Gbyte of DDR4 RAM and 4Gbyte of eMMC NAND flash memory. Interface choices include a camera input (MIPI-CSI), display output (Parallerl-IF), USB2.0 two channel, SD, also two channel, CAN (CAN-FD) and Gigabit Ethernet two channel. Temperature range is -25 to +85 degrees C and -40 to +85 degrees C for industrial environments.

The MSRZG2UL and MSRZFive SiPs will be available as samples from Q3 2022. Series production will start in Q4 2022.

Aries Embedded will present the new SiPs at Embedded World (21 to 23 June) in Nuremberg, Germany. Visit Aries Embedded in Hall 5 – 108.
