Embedded system has its sights on video walls

Based on a specially designed 19-inch rack that is cooled by three fans, the RS4U-MTRX-1101 has been unveiled by Portwell.

The PICMG 1.3 backplane and a full-size single board computer (SBC) provide has up to 10 slots PCIe x 16 for extension options. It also has a redundant 950Watt power supply, allowing 24/7 operation.

The RS4U-MTRX-1101 is pre-configured to be populated with Matrox graphics cards from the MPX and IPX series. The high-performance PCI Express switch on the backplane, with the ROBO-8113VG2AR SBC, enable the RS4U-MTRX-1101 to provide full PCIe x16 to all 10 extension slots, explains Portwell.

The ROBO-8113VG2AR family of PICMG 1.3 SBCs offers a choice of the latest seventh and sixth generation Intel Core i7, i5 and i3 processors or the Intel Xeon processor E3-1200 v5 family. The Intel Xeon processors include Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 and Intel Hyper-Threading technology to deliver improved performance and processing efficiency, Portwell adds. The ROBO-8113 supports Intel C236 and Q170 chipsets to provide up to 32Gbyte DDR4 system memory with ECC or non-ECC option.

The RS4U-MTRX-1101 was designed for high computing performance with huge data throughput and combined high-reliability. A target application is video wall installation with up to 40 displays. The system is pre-installed with Windows 10 or Windows 7 (if Matrox IPX is to be supported). Populating it with the required combination of Matrox MPX or IPX cards for a customer’s video wall installation, allows the system integrator to focus on the application itself and the content to be streamed by the system. Portwell says this helps minimise development effort and time spent on initial designs, including validation and verification.

Portwell is an Associate member of the Intel Internet of Things Solutions Alliance. It designs and manufactures a full range of IPC products (SBC, backplane, redundant power supply, rack mount and node chassis), embedded architecture solutions, DVR system platforms and communications appliances.

The company provides R&D and project management services to reduce time to market, project risk and cost.

Portwell is also an ISO 13485, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001-certified company that deploys quality assurance through product design, verification and manufacturing cycles.
